The Small Town, Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Section (ST RWS) in the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) formed a children’s library in rural Thalakolawewa village in Polpithigama DS Division in Kurunagala district. Nearly 316
disadvantaged families and 150 children live in the village.
The library was ceremoniously opened on 01st of November 2019 at 9.30 am in Thalakolawewa
with the participation of Deputy General Manager Mr. I.V.W Ediriweera , Mr. A.H. Gunapala,
the National Consultant for social development in UNDP, and ST,RWS Staff members .
As a literacy improving campaign, and for the development of the community, we initiated this
programme to empower children in the area and planned to expand this concept to the other
selected villages as well.
